About Beyond Cubicles

📢 #BeyondCubicles is a weekly LinkedIn series created by Carolina D’Souza, born out of her own experience transitioning from a corporate career to independent consulting. Since its launch in June 2024, the series has evolved into a platform that showcases the inspiring journeys of several founders who have redefined the traditional 9-to-5.

Through authentic narratives, #BeyondCubicles highlights themes of courage, resilience, and purpose. The stories feature individuals from diverse industries—ranging from tech and education to wellness and adventure—who share their experiences of stepping away from conventional roles to pursue passion-driven careers.

✨ Note: All features in this series are unpaid and shared as a way to honor and amplify real stories of transformation.

“Staying longer would become riskier to my soul than leaving would be to my financial security,” says Dr. Hatem Goucha.

Over two decades across engineering, construction and operations, he went on to lead multi-billion-dollar projects in the United States.

Despite success, he felt a gap. “My career shaped me, stretched me, and gave me a front-row seat to leadership under pressure. I left because it had completed its role in my development,” he says.

He took these lessons and founded NewEra Consult LLC in 2022, working with leaders who want greater clarity and fulfillment.

NewEra reflects his belief in a new era of leadership, where success is measured by more than titles, money and performance. It also values inner alignment, emotional maturity, service and the ability to stay human under pressure.

His book ‘Become Who You Are Meant to Be’ was written for people who still carry a deeper question despite checking many external boxes of success. The book sold close to 1,000 copies in its first year.

The transition he admits brought uncertainty, fear, and a loss of identity. “Who am I without the title, the structure, the team, the salary, and the corporate machine behind me?” he says.

For him, the cost of the leap was certainty, a familiar identity, and corporate rhythm. “The emotional transition lasts longer than the logistical one. It is an identity shift,” he says.

He worked through it with meditation, breathwork, prayer, reflection, and disciplined action with mentors and colleagues. His wife’s support made the transition possible, while his children gave him reason to keep building.

“There is a particular kind of peace that comes from knowing you are no longer postponing your own life,” he says.

His personal brand evolved into that of a coach, author, speaker, seeker, and someone who speaks openly about emotional regulation and fulfillment.

His advice: Do the inner work “because the biggest battle is not always the market. Sometimes it is your own fear, impatience, perfectionism, and need for external validation.”

Born in Tunisia, he moved to the US on scholarship, and built his career there. “Tunisia gave me roots, the US gave me independence and professional growth, and the UAE is giving me a platform for reinvention and contribution,” he says.
