About Beyond Cubicles
đ˘ #BeyondCubicles is a weekly LinkedIn series created by Carolina DâSouza, born out of her own experience transitioning from a corporate career to independent consulting. Since its launch in June 2024, the series has evolved into a platform that showcases the inspiring journeys of several founders who have redefined the traditional 9-to-5.
Through authentic narratives, #BeyondCubicles highlights themes of courage, resilience, and purpose. The stories feature individuals from diverse industriesâranging from tech and education to wellness and adventureâwho share their experiences of stepping away from conventional roles to pursue passion-driven careers.Â
⨠Note: All features in this series are unpaid and shared as a way to honor and amplify real stories of transformation.
âNow, I see myself as a catalyst.â
Charlotte Stebbing-Mills seemed to have it all: a thriving career and the sun and sand as the backdrop.
Yet reality was different.
âMy mental and emotional health suffered to the point of burnout,â she says.
That breaking point became her call to adventure and impact. âI wanted to build what wasnât there, so others wouldnât have to go through what I did.â
Charlotte has worked in wellness since 2005, beginning with a collaboration with the NHS to support cardiac patients, then leading teams in the Middle East to develop fitness programs.
The pressure mounted until she reached exhaustion.
With her partner, Jonathan Mills, in 2019 she co-founded The Wellness Theory, a multi award-winning business helping leaders and changemakers reduce stress, avoid burnout, and sustain performance.
She also launched Wellbeing Leaders, a community supporting leaders who drive workplace wellbeing, with over 250 members.
The leap into entrepreneurship came with its own trials.
âAfter years of working for someone else, it was hard to tap into the freedom that I could do what I wanted,â she says.
Self-doubt and imposter syndrome shadowed, but purpose kept her moving, she says.
âThe leap isnât one big jump; itâs daily choices. My advice: stress less about getting it âright,â surround yourself with people on a similar mission, and let the process shape you.â
Mentors, clients, and community offered encouragement. One client, teary-eyed, told her, âIâm no longer just surviving⌠I feel alive again.â
That moment belonged to the client as much as it did to Charlotte.
âI used to see myself as someone proving her worth through hard work and perfectionism. Now, I see myself as a catalyst,â she says.
As her identity evolved and became more vibrant, her personal brand grew with her.
âThe more courageous and confident I became, the more it showed in everything I shared.â
Originally from the UK, she moved to Abu Dhabi for a career opportunity and she’s still settled in the capital. âI made friends whoâve become family and discovered this is a place where ambition and impact collide.â
Today, fulfillment means alignment, recovery, and creating social good that extends far beyond her own story.
